ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Beginning in late August 2018, the Town of Markle enlisted Yates Engineering Services’ (YES’s) assistance in authoring a Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) feasibility study exploring the possibility of deploying a high-speed fiber optic network to serve Markle businesses and residents.
This study included a high-level, low detail fiber optic backbone and distribution cable design; central office equipment discussion; a discussion of various network topographies; a discussion of aerial construction versus buried construction and the materials involved in performing each; a drawing of the proposed fiber route; a discussion of various types of municipal fiber networks; construction and engineering costs and the assumptions used in creating these estimates; and a summary of final recommendations in building a fiber optic network.
A summary of these findings were presented by YES’s President, Bart Bretsch, P.E., in Mid-November 2018, at a town-wide public informational meeting and a final version of the feasibility was delivered to the Town at the end of November. The Town is currently working on compiling data from a survey of Town residents and hopes to move forward with building a network in 2019 based on resident feedback.
